Installation:

Why am I not able to download the book?

If you are sure your download has not started: Are you behind a firewall, a proxy or other protection scheme? If so, make sure you have the privileges to download content. If not, you will need to ask your network administrator for permission. If you are still not succeeding, you may want to try a different machine, perhaps a home machine versus an institution or office machine.

Your anti-virus or firewall software is often shown with an icon along the bottom of the screen in a task bar. Clicking on it, perhaps right clicking on it, will typically allow you to change its settings. (If you cannot find it in your task bar, look under Applications on a Macintosh or the Start menu on Windows). You want to disable the firewall settings and anti-virus functionality temporarily. Often, programs prompt you to do this for just 15 minutes. If not, remember to turn them back on after the program is authenticated and running.

Before download, I get asked some questions: how should I proceed?

Internet Explorer

  1. Select the "Save" button when asked the following question: Do you want to run or save this file?
  2. We recommend that you save Alg1setup file to your desktop folder for quick access
  3. The download should start saving the file and you will be provided a progress status bar.
  4. If you check: "Close this dialog box when download completes", you will need to find the file on the desktop. We recommend that you leave this box unchecked.
  5. Select "Run" to start the installation when the download is finished.

Firefox

  1. Select "Save to Disk" option when asked: "What should Firefox do with this file?"
  2. The download should start saving the file and you will be provided a progress status bar and the directory where the file was downloaded.
  3. When the download is done: select "Open" to start installing the product.
  4. Select "Ok" to confirm that you want to open the Alg1setup.exe

  3. Double click Alg1Setup.dmg
  4. A new window will open on the desktop.
  5. Double click the file "Kinetic Books" icon to start installing the product

I run Internet Explorer 7.0 and get a security warning. Is it safe to install the product?

Yes, it is safe to install the product since you know that it is Kinetic Books that published it. Select "Run" to continue installing.

Where is the book I just downloaded?

Firefox

If you are running Firefox, it most likely will save to your desktop. Firefox uses a small browser window to keep track of the status of downloads. That window will tell you where files are downloaded. It says on the bottom "All files downloaded to:" and then a location. That window should be still available after download. If not, you can always start another download, note the location of the download, and cancel the download after you have noted the location.

Internet Explorer

If you are running Internet Explorer, you will be given the option to select a default download directory. We recommend saving to the desktop for easy access.

Safari

Safari also automatically downloads the file to the desktop.

Access privileges are needed to install Kinetic Books products.

Installation of this product requires Administrator privileges. Please ensure that you have Administrator privileges before installing. If you do not have privileges on your computer, please contact someone who does. To check if you are the administrator:

For Windows Users:

  1. Go to Start menu
  2. Select Control Panel
  3. Select User Accounts and confirm that you are the administrator on that machine.

If you are a Macintosh user, you will be prompted for your username and password.

When I open my book for the first time, my anti-virus software displays a "program alert". How should I respond?

When you get a program alert, please opt to always allow our program to run. If you choose "Allow always (recommended)" you will not see this message again. You can do this safely since it only affects your Kinetic Books Algebra software.

I got a message that says, "Trial timed out."

Authentication:

I downloaded the application, but I did not get a key sent to me.

Your installation will not be complete until you authenticate your product. Please check your e-mail one more time. The key may have been blocked as spam. If so, check your spam folder. You can also add the domain "kbooks.com" to the white list of your email client. For instructions, please click here. The white list means you will receive the key. If spam filtering is occurring on a network server, you may need to contact your network administrator.

The product is not accepting the key.

Please check the e-mail you received from kbooks.com for the 20-character key code. We do not use the letters O or I to reduce confusion with the numbers 0 and 1.

While authenticating, I received a "Could not connect" error.

You may receive this error if you do not have an active connection to the Internet or your computer's clock is not set correctly. Please ensure you have an active connection to the Internet and that your computer's clock is set correctly, and try authenticating again.

"We are sorry, this key code has already been used."

You are trying to use a key code that has already been used to authenticate the product. If you believe you are receiving this message in error, please contact us with your key code information.

Running the product:

When I click on "Listen to explanation" on a white board, I do not hear audio.

We ship the product with the default set to play the audio in the white boards. If you are not hearing the audio, please check to ensure that the mute button in Kinetic Books task bar is not on (the waves should be showing on the mute icon). If the audio is not muted in our application, please check to see if the system audio is muted. If you have speakers, please make sure they are turned on.

On the PC, you can do this by clicking on the speaker icon in the task bar's tool tray or by opening the 'sounds and audio devices' in the control panel. In either case, check to see that the 'mute' checkbox is not checked and the volume is set so you can hear sounds created by the system.

On a Macintosh you can check the audio volume by pressing 'volume up' key on the keyboard or going to the 'System Preferences' in the tool bar, selecting 'Sound' and adjusting the volume slider at the bottom of the page.

I would like to use my keyboard to edit all the contents of a Kinetic Input box (example: Section 0.04).

Not all keys are supported - some characters must be typed in using the buttons in Kinetic Input. For instance, you must use the parentheses button to create parentheses.

How do all the features work in the Algebra book?
