The College Board Gives Passing Marks to Kinetic Books’
Digital Textbooks for Advanced Placement Physics Courses

INTERACTIVE CURRICULUM FULLY REPLACES PRINT TEXTBOOKS

SEATTLE, Mar 27, 2007 -- Kinetic Books Company®, creator and publisher of Kinetic Textbooks', today announced that, as of February 21, 2007, two of its interactive textbooks have joined the respected list of textbooks that the College Board has determined meet the Advanced Placement Program® (AP®) course audit requirements for college level physics. Principles of Physics meets the curricular requirements for AP Physics B courses, and Physics for Scientists and Engineers meets the requirements for both AP Physics C courses. The College Board has stated that the textbooks will be listed on The College Board’s APCentral web site in the future.

The two AP-course accepted textbooks, along with their sister product, Conceptual Physics, replace traditional print physics textbooks. Physics instructors and students around the country can take advantage of textbooks that contain a plethora of interactive simulations, multimedia animations, video, spreadsheet models and thousands of end-of-chapter problems, in addition to standard text and narrations. The books cover the complete range of first-year physics topics in depth, from one-dimensional motion to modern physics. As an added benefit, the textbooks cost less than 1/2 the price of a traditional textbook, starting at $24.95.

"We’re honored that our Kinetic Textbooks have been designated as meeting the College Board requirements for Advanced Placement coursework," said Mark Bretl, vice president at Kinetic Books. "This builds upon our previous successes in state adoptions and once again validates our comprehensive, standards-compliant, fully-interactive curriculum."

The College Board is a not-for-profit association serving millions of students and parents, and thousands of high schools and colleges. The association’s AP program enables students to pursue college-level studies while still in high school, and upholds standards for its AP designation through audits and curriculum approval. Students can earn credit and/or advanced placement at more than 90 percent of U.S. and Canadian colleges and universities through this program.

Teacher Testimonial:
The following are comments from Ken Tong, AP physics instructor for 20 years at Ballard High School in Seattle:
I am a proponent of computer-based learning and have utilized many physics web sites for tutorial purposes with my students, yet I have found digital curriculum to be somewhat restrictive in the past. I had not encountered any that are actually comprehensive and thorough in covering the complete curriculum with continuity. Most are simply text-based material now available on a computer screen, or simple animations without interactivity.
Kinetic Books’ digital textbook is superior to former versions of digital curriculum. These comprehensive textbooks are thorough and segmented similarly to traditional textbooks. These books make learning fundamentals and interactive problem solving enjoyable and educational for students. For teachers it has all the necessary resources, such as individualized assessments and a grading system.
There is a high technological savvy among today’s high school students, so my students did not face much of a learning curve for the new curriculum. As a matter of fact, I found that they were energized by "going digital."
I can understand their enthusiasm; it is much more exciting to see physics phenomena come to life through interactive graphics than to read about them or see static two-dimensional illustrations. This is true whether it is learning about projectile motion through the physics of juggling or about orbital mechanics by placing a satellite in orbit around the Earth and planning a mission to Mars.
"The physical examples in this textbook help me to memorize and associate physics to the world," said one of my students. Another student said the textbook "is more lively than a regular textbook, and more interesting."

About Kinetic TextbooksTM

Kinetic Textbooks are comprehensive textbooks built from the ground up to take advantage of computers. Unlike previous versions of electronic or interactive textbooks, which are bundled as part of traditional textbooks or do not subscribe to course work, Kinetic Textbooks are comprehensive, flexible and fully interactive.
